Speech
bone

The Speech Bone (in Dutch: het Spreekbeentje) is a practical and expedient aid in voice - and speech training.

Voice/Speech/Singing teachers and Speech pathologists use it in their lessons and training for students.
Professional speakers and actors use it for perfecting their level and style.

Warming up
The speech bone is particularly suitable for warming up and the maintenance of vocal and speaking skills.
Regular and specific training with this small object in brief periods (few minutes) of time have an effective result for the proprioception around one's articulatory mechanism - the fundament of directed and effective work on speaking goals. 

Training
Targeted and more intensive training is employed to work on specific speech goals such as: relieving jaw clenching, exploring motor skills involved in vowel and consonant formation, loosening the speech muscles, and coordinating the small and large mechanism.

Material
The speech bone is made of CE2 certified material and therefore contains no toxic substances. The same material is also used to manufacture dentures and splints, thus can be safely kept in the mouth for extended periods.

Each speech bone comes complete with all accessories (silk ribbon, pouch, a manual & exercises).

Order
Speech bones are supplied to instructed (singing/theatre) teachers, speech therapists, singers, actors, speakers, and (stage) artists. They can choose to distribute or resell speech bones from their own stock.

Workshop

For speech therapists, speakers, vocal teachers, singers, (voice) actors and performing artists

Participants receive instruction on the use of the speaking bone and learn to work with it independently. In addition, work is done on application, practice routines, and alignment with the specific learning environment and learning objectives of the target group (speaking profession, recitation, acting, singing, etc.).

During this workshop, an interesting interaction develops between the various disciplines present.

During the instruction, we work around your specific conditions, working environment and style.

(Groups of) Speech Pathologists can organise their own Speech bone workshop on a location of preference. The workshop can be linked to another activity or meeting.

During this workshop, we can delve deeper into the application and the (im)possibilities of the speech bone within various treatments, as well as the ways in which the speach bone can or cannot be used. Additionally, your own skills will be addressed.

I would be happy to join you in an exploration: how to organize a workshop for your group or colleagues in your own neighborhood.

Neck ribbon

silk ribbon

The special ribbon consists of 2mm silk ribbon (100% silk) that will snap when tugged strongly, thus preventing the danger of choking. Using a fine and subtle material also works for the sensitive lips: it provides a less disturbing sensation, compared to other materials.

Please do not replace the silk ribbon with one made out of nylon or other hard-to-break material to avoid the risk of injuries around the neck.

conditions


− In principle speech bones can only be purchased by those who followed a user instruction.
− The speech bone is for personal use only.
− Use the speech bone
− Working with a speech bone should always be part of voice-, speech- or singing training and can not be a substitute for it. It is only to be used under the supervision of a qualified and experienced teacher or speech therapist.
− Follow the guidelines provided in the manual closely for voice and speech exercises.
− Do not bite on the speaking bone, but hold it loosely between the teeth.
− Those interested in a single speech bone (for personal use) are kindly requested to purchase one through their own teacher / speech therapist.
− Prices for workshops and on-site instruction may differ from the amounts stated on this website; prices determined by mutual agreement are binding.
− The speechbone comes standard with a manual, including basic speech and voice exercisesand each speech bone is supplied in a storage pouch.
− A warranty period of 2 years applies to the delivered speech bones. The usage time and lifespan of a speech bone is many years longer (if not: a life time!). The warranty does not apply to the ribbon regarding breakage or entangling (entirely in accordance with the manual and instructions).
− Delivered speech bones cannot be returned.
